  2. Simon Constantine – Our Knight in shining armour!

    April 24, 2012 by Lucy

We had a another very successful business lunch in April, even if our star speaker, Mark Constantine of Lush Cosmetics, did get held up in Holland! No worries, we were saved by Simon Constantine!

Simon is the Chief Perfumer and Buyer within Lush. His presentation was a fascinating insight into how a company of this size source their raw materials. Simon travels the world setting up cooperatives with local people, ensuring consistent quality, quantity and fair trade. Simon also brought along some perfumes, and talked about the fine art of creating gorgeous scents.

We were very lucky to have Simon speak for us as he doesn’t normally talk in public; he is also on paternity leave so his lovely wife and 1 week old baby girl came along too. We received some wonderful feedback for this lunch:

A fascinating talk from someone clearly passionate about what he does.

Excellent speaker, inspirational. I could have listened to Simon speak for hours.

Very, very good. Please could Simon do another presentation?

I thought this was one of the best! So interesting.

Very interesting, fascinated in the SLS and paraben subject, love to hear more!

    Brilliant.

Thank you to Simon for stepping in with only an hour’s notice! You could have heard a pin drop, everybody was so engaged in his presentation. Mark has assured us he will give a presentation at a future date, so stay tuned!

  3. PBWLC 19th April – Mark Constantine – LUSH Cosmetics

    March 26, 2012 by Lucy

    Hi Ladies,

    Poole Business Women’s Lunch Club – 19th April 2012

    -MARK CONSTANTINE – LUSH COSMETICS-

-‘A Fish Rots From The Head’ –

Sponsored by Storm Fish Restaurant www.stormfish.co.uk

We are delighted that Mark Constantine, MD of Lush, has agreed to talk to us again on the 12th anniversary of the Poole Business Lunch.   Mark is a relaxed and inspired speaker who definitely defies convention.  As more large well-know retailers go to the wall, he is going to talk about retail and the state of the High Street, what can we expect?  Lush is built on strong ethics and continual innovation, but what really makes Lush continue to be successful despite the tough economical climate? Mark Constantine’s talk for this year is entitled “A fish rots from the head”.

Book up as soon as possible for this event as it is always sold out… This is a unique opportunity to hear Mark speak; be prepared to be engaged, inspired and challenged by this energetic entrepreneur.

    -NATASHA JONES – LEAF CHARITY-

-Special Woman Award Winner 2011 – Langtry Manor Business Women Awards-

This month to coincide with International Women’s Day we have a very special woman speaking for us, Natasha Jones from Leaf Charity. Natasha was diagnosed with Leukaemia in November 2005 just 3 weeks after giving birth to her second son. During her six months spent in isolation she founded the charity Leaf to help others faced with the same ordeal as herself. Her aim was to turn her experience into something positive and she would like to share her story with others to give hope.

Leaf is a charity that provides support for patients and families that have been affected by blood cancer.  The sort of things that they do is to offer practical help at home especially when patients come out of hospital and they are usually too weak to do anything, organizing cleaners, dog walking, transport to and from hospital, sending younger families on holiday so that they have time together, providing equipment to Poole Hospital, putting together packs for patients when they have to go into hospital particularly when they don’t have anyone to help them:  pyjamas, tooth brushes, etc.

When you meet Natasha you can’t help but be impressed by her modesty, her generousity, positive attitude and her incredible determination to personally help as many people as she can that are suffering with this illness. Come along to the lunch and listen to her inspiring and motivational story, you can’t help but be touched by her courageousness and strength of spirit.
